The BITS Professional Development Fund provides non-repayable grants of up to $1,000 to help young entrepreneurs in Canada build the skills and knowledge they need to grow their businesses through professional training, certifications, or development programs.

Business in the Streets (BITS) recognizes that business success is rooted in both strategy and self-development. The Professional Development Fund is designed to support entrepreneurs aged 18 to 34 who want to improve their personal capacity as business owners. The fund offers up to $1,000 in grant funding to cover the cost of courses, certifications, workshops, or programs that directly improve the entrepreneur’s knowledge, leadership, or technical abilities. This fund is not for business expenses like inventory or advertising. Instead, it focuses on professional learning that strengthens the founder’s ability to lead and grow their venture. Examples of eligible development expenses include: Certificate courses (e.g., marketing, accounting, project management) Software training (e.g., Adobe, QuickBooks, Shopify) Coaching or leadership development programs Public speaking or negotiation skills workshops Mental wellness programs (if tied to personal leadership development) Entrepreneurs must demonstrate a clear link between the professional development activity and how it will strengthen their business outcomes. Applicants are also required to submit proof of completion after the funded program ends. Priority is given to individuals from equity-deserving groups, including Black and Indigenous youth, newcomers, and low-income individuals. Funding is offered several times per year with a limited number of grants available per round.

Eligibility criteria of the BITS BUCKS- Professional development Funds for leveling up program:
  • Must be 1834 years old
  • Must be a Canadian resident
  • Must be a BITS program graduate (Boot Camp or Rise Up!)
  • Must demonstrate a clear connection between the proposed training and business growth
  • Must submit proof of completion of the funded development activity
  • Preference given to equity-deserving youth:
  • Black, Indigenous, racialized youth
  • Low-income individuals
  • Newcomers, women, LGBTQ2S+
