Overview of the reSTART program:

The RESTART program is designed to support individuals who face barriers to digital access by providing refurbished computer systems and assisting them with connectivity solutions such as low-cost internet. Operated by ReBOOT Canada, a non-profit organization, this initiative works to reduce electronic waste while promoting digital equity across communities in Ontario. The program repurposes donated electronics and redistributes them to low-income individuals, especially those referred by community agencies and employment support programs. In addition to providing hardware, RESTART participants can also benefit from guidance on connecting to affordable internet services through partnerships with national and regional internet providers. This program helps individuals with educational pursuits, job searching, accessing healthcare, and staying connected in an increasingly digital world. While the program focuses on equipment access, it also integrates support for basic computer literacy by working with local partners. There is no application fee, and the process is streamlined to support rapid access to resources for those who qualify. The program offers two equipment packages: Standard Package: $195 for a laptop or $165 for a desktop. Premium Package: $295 for both laptops and desktops. Prices include applicable sales taxes. Shipping fees are additional, with rates varying by province and type of computer.
