Overview of the Active NL program:

The Active NL Fund offers financial support to projects that promote active living in Newfoundland and Labrador. The program funds initiatives that encourage physical activity, sport, recreation, and healthy eating. It includes three main components: Community Physical Activity, Sports and Recreation Facilities, and Support for Athletes and Coaches. Eligible applicants include municipalities, Indigenous organizations, and community groups. Funding can be used for infrastructure, equipment, programming, and events that align with the program’s goals. The aim is to increase physical activity and improve health outcomes across the province.

  • Equipment:
  • Sport, physical activity, and active recreation equipment
  • Healthy eating equipment (up to $1,500 per large appliance)
  • Exercise and adaptive exercise equipment (e.g., treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike)
  • Infrastructure:
  • Development, upgrades, assessments, and repairs for multi-use trails
  • Active transportation equipment and infrastructure
  • Development or upgrades to recreation and sport spaces (indoor and outdoor)
  • Programs and Initiatives:
  • Active living initiatives (e.g., exercise programs, active recreation)
  • Healthy eating education programs
  • Event Costs:
  • Expenses for regional, provincial, and national sporting events (e.g., facility upgrades, equipment)
  • Labour Costs:
  • Costs for certified professionals (e.g., electrical, plumbing, carpentry)
  • Playground Equipment:
  • Must be approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA)
