Overview of the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant program:

There is a governing body in charge of apprenticeship in each province and territory. This body is usually a branch related to each provincial or territorial Department/Ministry of Education and Training with authority over training, regulation and certification of the apprenticeship program for their province/territory. The AIG is a taxable grant worth $1,000 per level, awarded to registered apprentices You must complete your first year/level (or equivalent) to apply for the AIG You can apply for this grant twice during your training (for a maximum of $2,000) You can apply for your second AIG after completing your second year/level (or equivalent) of training Note: The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) will end March 31, 2025. Applications will not be accepted after this date.

Eligibility criteria of the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant program:
  • To be eligible for the AIG, you must:
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person
  • Not be a high school student
  • Demonstrate registration and completion with acceptable provincial/territorial AIG supporting documents
  • Be registered with a provincial/territorial apprenticeship authority as an apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade.
  • Progression date between January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2024
  • Application deadline: 12 months from progression date
  • Deadline for submitting supporting proof document(s): 12 months from application deadline
  • Example
  • If your progression date is February 12, 2023, you have until February 12, 2024 to apply and until February 12, 2025, to provide supporting proof document(s).
  • Progression date on or after March 31, 2024
  • Application deadline: March 31, 2025. You should apply even if you have not received supporting documents from your apprenticeship authority
  • Deadline for submitting supporting proof document(s): 12 months from application deadline
  • Example
  • If your progression date is January 12, 2025, you have until March 31, 2025, to apply. The last date to submit supporting proof documents is March 31, 2026.
