The Cleantech Research and Innovation Fund (CRIF) in Prince Edward Island supports the development of innovative clean technology projects that aim to reduce environmental impact, enhance energy efficiency, and promote sustainable resource use.

Overview of the Cleantech Research and Innovation Fund program:

The CRIF provides up to 80% funding (to a maximum of $500,000) for projects focusing on clean technology solutions, such as improving energy efficiency, enhancing grid resiliency, creating non-emitting energy sources, and advancing environmental protection efforts. The program supports a range of eligible activities, including salaries for project staff, consulting and engineering fees, materials, testing, prototype development, and intellectual property strategies. Projects must be at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 2-6 and demonstrate clear potential for commercialization and export market entry. Applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis, and selected based on the strength of the proposed research and development plan.

Eligibility criteria of the Cleantech Research and Innovation Fund program:
  • To be considered for funding, applicants must have a physical presence in PEI and may be:
  • A PEI registered business that manufactures, processes or develops products;
  • A PEI educational institution researching and developing clean technology products;
  • An Indigenous community endeavouring to reduce negative impact on the environment; or
  • Other government agencies (please include a description of your agency when you apply)
  • An applicant with a defaulted outstanding debt obligation on file in the Provinces Central Default Registry is not eligible for Cleantech Research and Innovation Funding.
