Overview of the AgriInvest program:

AgriInvest is one of the business risk management programs the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP). AgriInvest is a self-managed producer-government savings account designed to help you manage small income declines and make investments to manage risk and improve market income. Please note: September 30, 2024Initial deadline to submit your 2023 form without penalty. December 31, 2024Final deadline to submit your 2023 form with a penalty applied. We will reduce your maximum matchable deposit by 5% for each month (or part of a month) past the initial deadline to the final deadline.

Benefits of the AgriInvest program:
  • Each year, you can deposit up to 100% of your Allowable Net Sales to your AgriInvest account and receive a matching government contribution on 1% of your Allowable Net Sales.
  • Your AgriInvest account grows as you make deposits, receive matching government contributions and earn interest. You can withdraw funds from your AgriInvest account at any time. Funds are withdrawn from your account in the following order:
  • Fund 2 government contributions and interest (included in income for tax purposes)
  • Fund 1 your deposits (not taxable)
Eligibility criteria of the AgriInvest program:
  • You are eligible for AgriInvest if you earn income from the primary production of agricultural commodities and you:
  • Farm in Canada
  • File an income tax return reporting farming income (loss) to the Canada Revenue Agency by the final filing deadline for the program yearFootnote1
  • File an AgriInvest form reporting sales and purchases of allowable commodities by the final deadline for the program year
  • Participants include:
  • Individual producers
  • Partners in a partnership
  • Corporations
  • Co-operatives
  • Communal organizations
  • Landlords in a joint venture
  • Estates
  • Trusts
  • Limited partnerships
  • Status Indians and Band Farms farming on a reserve
  • Custom feedlot operators
