Overview of the Green Team Grants (Manitoba) program:

Green Team grants create summer employment opportunities for youth aged 15 to 29 years. Approved Applicants provide a variety of community development projects that improve neighbourhoods, promote community involvement, and help develop young leaders. The employment period is between May 1 and September 30. The priorities for the 2025 summer season focus on municipalities, Northern Affairs communities, community-based organizations in designated community renewal areas, and Manitoba-accredited camps. The projects should offer full-time employment opportunities, build leadership skills and employment experience for youth and demonstrate community need and partnerships.

  • O May be approved for up to $75,000 in Green Team grant funding (cost-shared amount).
  • O Will be reimbursed half of the Manitoba minimum wage rate, 4% vacation allowance and CPP/EI remittances, and up to $125 in support costs for each approved Green Team employee on a 50/50 cost-shared basis up to the total grant approved.
  • Northern Affairs Community Councils, non-profit organizations and education

  • Reimbursement will not be provided for any hours worked outside the Program operating dates (May 1 to September 30) unless a request to extend the project was approved.
Eligibility criteria of the Green Team Grants (Manitoba) program:
  • Municipal governments (other than the City of Winnipeg), Northern Affairs Community
  • Councils, non-profit organizations and education authorities throughout Manitoba.
  • A non-profit organization is defined as one whose activities are carried on with no financial gain to any of its members. Their activities must also benefit the larger community. To be eligible, non-profit organizations must be able to provide evidence, on request, that the organization is active and in good standing.
  • Applicants for the Green Team program must fully adhere to all program forms, documents, and guidelines, and comply with all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, including labour, environmental, privacy, human rights, and public health regulations. They must maintain and follow a conflict of interest policy that meets or exceeds Manitobas guidelines and disclose it upon request. Applicants are responsible for project management and daily supervision of Green Team employees, and must conduct criminal record checks, vulnerable sector searches, and child or adult abuse registry checks for employees who may interact with youth or vulnerable persons, ensuring employees are supervised while awaiting results and redeployed if necessary. They must provide Workers Compensation coverage for all Green Team employees, pay at least Manitobas current minimum wage plus a 4% vacation allowance, document hours worked, issue pay stubs and T4 slips, and remit all applicable payroll deductions. Additionally, applicants must obtain permission for work on private, residential, or municipal properties, report any project or contact information changes, respond promptly to program staff requests, allow identification in program publicity, and provide funding recognition on all promotional materials while supplying information to assist in program effectiveness reviews.
  • Eligible Green Team employees must be Manitoba residents aged 1529, legally entitled to work in Canada, and have a valid Social Insurance Number. Youth aged 15 must also complete the Young Worker Readiness Certificate. Approved Applicants cannot hire immediate relatives of board members or supervisors, individuals previously employed full-time for three or more months, those with a financial interest in the organization, self-employed or contract workers, or anyone whose employment would replace or reduce existing staff. Individuals receiving other provincial or federal wage funding during the Green Team employment period are also ineligible. Applicants are responsible for verifying eligibility and must submit an Employee Profile form for each hire within one week; ineligible hires will not be reimbursed.
