Overview of the Industrial Energy Manager program:

The BC Hydro Industrial Energy Manager (IEM) Program is designed to help large industrial companies in British Columbia improve energy efficiency, reduce energy costs, and enhance overall operational performance. The program supports the placement of dedicated energy managers within industrial facilities who are responsible for identifying, implementing, and maintaining energy-saving projects. BC Hydro provides financial support, training, and resources to help these energy managers succeed in driving significant energy savings and sustainability initiatives.

  • Up to 75% of your energy manager's salary funding.
  • 100% funding for energy management consulting services, which can be used for coaching, training, plan and policy development, and more.
  • 100% funding for the required training of your new energy manager.
  • 100% funding for the cost of an on-site energy management assessment.
  • Funding up to $100,000* for a Level 2 energy management information system (EMIS).
  • 100% funding for a planning workshop to facilitate your custom plan.
  • Generous funding for employee engagement activities including training and awareness events
Eligibility criteria of the Industrial Energy Manager program:
  • Industrial Sector: The program is open to large industrial customers who operate in sectors such as manufacturing, mining, pulp and paper, oil and gas, and other energy-intensive industries.
  • BC Hydro Customer: The company must be a customer of BC Hydro and have a significant energy consumption profile, typically requiring at least 10 GWh of electricity annually.
  • Commitment to Energy Management: The company must demonstrate a commitment to energy management by integrating the energy managers role into their organizational structure and supporting energy-saving initiatives.
  • Energy Savings Potential: The company should have potential for significant energy savings through the identification and implementation of energy efficiency projects.
