The ‘Inuktut Versioning Fund For Existing Programs’ is an initiative to provide support for the versioning of existing programming of relevance to Nunavut into Inuktut, either Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun.

Overview of the Inuktut Versioning Fund for Existing Programs program:

This initiative by Nunavut Film aims to increase the film, television and digital media available in Inuktut to the residents of Nunavut by providing grants for versioning of existing programming. The versioning may be in Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun, and the medium or channel used may be anything from broadcast to consumer sales, on-line or even educational institutions.

Benefits of the Inuktut Versioning Fund for Existing Programs program:
  • This grant program offers 33% of the cost of the versioning into Inuktut, up to a limit of $10,000 per project. Half of the grant amount is provided upon execution of the contribution agreement, and the balance will be paid upon submission of a final cost report and a copy of the program.
Eligibility criteria of the Inuktut Versioning Fund for Existing Programs program:
  • To be eligible to apply for assistance under this program the applicant must:
  • Be a Nunavut company incorporated pursuant to the laws of the Territory of Nunavut or Canada which is owned by a majority (51% or more) by Nunavut residents;
  • Be a Nunavut company with a head office in Nunavut;
  • Hold distribution rights for Inuktut version of the program to be versioned for the Territory of Nunavut;
  • Have a guarantee of the distribution and/or broadcast of the program within the Territory of Nunavut.
