Overview of the Recognition Counts program:

Recognition Counts is a program that provides supports to skilled immigrants wishing to work in their fields of expertise or alternative career in Manitoba. The program offers financial counselling, as well as the opportunity to apply for a loan of up to $30,000 with Assiniboine Credit Union, to help with the cost of having your qualifications recognized in Manitoba and obtaining employment in your occupation.

Eligibility criteria of the Recognition Counts program:
  • You must be an immigrant with foreign credentials that need to be recognized here in order to work and:
    • Be a Permanent Resident of Canada, or an individual granted refugee status in Canada and who is legally permitted to work in Canada, or, a Canadian citizen, or a Temporary Foreign Worker with an open Work Permit (including CUAET visa holders);
    • Be a Manitoba resident
    • Have Foreign Credentials to be recognized in order to work
    • Be referred by a referring partner agency/program (not applicable if you are already accepted into a bridging/gap training program)
    • Complete a Career Action Plan that demonstrates that you:
    • Have been trained outside of Canada in a regulated or non-regulated profession or trade
    • Are seeking employment in your field (related) or alternative career
    • Are able to complete any necessary certification, upgrading or training in two-and-a-half years or less
    • Be living on a low income
  • You are not eligible if you have an international student visa, a live-in caregiver visa, or you are a refugee claimant.
