The WEMB Start-Up Loans program, offered by Wabasca Entrepreneurial & Marketing Board (WEMB), is designed to help Indigenous entrepreneurs take their first steps into business ownership. This loan-based initiative aims to reduce financial barriers for start-ups by offering accessible funding to help cover essential early-stage business costs. Whether the funds are needed for equipment, inventory, marketing, or other start-up expenses, WEMB’s support is tailored to the specific needs of each applicant. The program promotes economic development and self-sufficiency within Manitoba, providing not only capital but also guidance throughout the early phases of business development. This loan complements WEMB’s broader mission to foster entrepreneurship and create sustainable, community-driven enterprises. Importantly, the loans are structured with flexible repayment terms, and the organization provides continued assistance during the loan lifecycle. The program places a strong emphasis on supporting members of the Bigstone Cree Nation and other Treaty 8 members who may face unique challenges when starting a business. Eligibility criteria of the Start-Up Loans Program program:
  • To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • A legal entity; and
  • A self-identifying woman (cis, trans, 2S, or gender-diverse) or be an operation owned and controlled by the same; and
  • A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or a legal entity owned and controlled by a Canadian citizen or citizens or a landed immigrant or immigrants; and
  • Operating or about to operate in Manitoba
