The City of Kitchener's Travel Assistance Grant Program provides financial support to individuals and teams traveling to compete or perform in recognized provincial, national, or international events. The program aims to assist with travel expenses for eligible minor sports and cultural activities.

Benefits of the Travel assistance grant - Kitchener program:
  • The maximum grant amount depends on the distance of the event from Kitchener and whether the applicant is an individual or group. Find amounts of each situation below.
  • In all situations, teams are eligible for a maximum of $1,000.
  • Event in Ontario
  • Individuals: maximum of $50
  • Teams: maximum of $40 per member
  • Event outside Ontario, but in Canada
  • Individuals: maximum of $100
  • Teams: maximum of $90 per member
  • Event outside Canada
  • Individuals: maximum of $200
  • Teams: maximum of $175 per member
Eligibility criteria of the Travel assistance grant - Kitchener program:
  • Eligibility Requirements
  • Minor Sports:
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or under.
  • Applicants must be residents of the City of Kitchener.
  • Grants are available to non-profit minor sports teams with a constitution and an elected executive.
  • The event must be a recognized provincial, national, or international championship, sanctioned by an appropriate governing body.
  • Teams must be based in the City of Kitchener. Kitchener-Waterloo teams may be considered on a pro-rated basis based on the number of Kitchener residents.
  • School teams (educational institutions) are not eligible.
  • Grants are only available for events requiring round-trip travel exceeding 500 kilometres.
  • An individual or team member can receive one grant per calendar year.
  • Cultural Activities:
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or under.
  • Applicants must be residents of the City of Kitchener.
  • Individuals or non-profit teams involved in cultural activities (e.g., choir, dance) are eligible if they have reached a qualifying skill level as established by the activity's governing body.
  • Teams must be based in the City of Kitchener. Kitchener-Waterloo teams may be considered on a pro-rated basis based on the number of Kitchener residents.
  • School teams (educational institutions) are not eligible.
  • Grants are only available for events requiring round-trip travel exceeding 500 kilometres.
