Yukon Tourism Training Fund

A funding opportunity which provides for short-term trainings and courses to advance your skills in tourism and hospitality management. The fund covers up to 75% of the total eligible training costs and with the completion of this program, it is expected for trainees and beneficiaries to acquire and strengthen skill sets suitable for the increasing demands of the tourism sector.

Overview of the Yukon Tourism Training Fund program:

Yukon Tourism Training Fund is a highly competitive reimbursement fund by the Department of Economic Development of the Yukon Government which aims to support tourism workers to attain skill sets needed to further their competitiveness within the tourism industry. This program is being administered by the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon (TIA Yukon) and it consists of two streams or categories such as those that are in groups or only to a dedicated and qualified individual. The fund covers only 75% of the total eligible training costs such the registration or tuition fee, travel expenses, and training materials provided that the proof of completion and receipts for all of the eligible expenses are submitted. Cut-off for applications is on the 15th of each May, August, November, and February in every fiscal year.

Benefits of the Yukon Tourism Training Fund program:
  • Aside from the opportunity to improve skills and knowledge in relation to tourism through funded trainings and courses, beneficiaries are also entitled to receive up to 75% of the total eligible training costs or a maximum of $3,000 (CAD) per individual over two fiscal years and $5,000 (CAD) per organization over a fiscal year. This includes coverage for the registration or tuition fee of the course, travel and accommodation expenses, training materials and other operating expenses, and disability-related support subsidies if needed and applicable.

  • Full-time employees.
  • Students.
  • Seasonal workers.
  • Professionals/self-employed individuals, owners or operators already
  • Engaged in the tourism industry.
  • Eligibility Criteria
  • Anyone who can legally work in Canada.
  • The applicant must invest a minimum of 25% of total training costs.
  • The individual applicant must be prepared to pay for the training course and
  • All related expenses upfront.
