Overview of the Destination Horizon Grants program:

Destination Horizon Grants aim to build capacity, foster existing partnerships, and develop networks or consortia between researchers affiliated with eligible Canadian postsecondary institutions and their counterparts in the EU and other associated countries. The ultimate goal is to facilitate successful applications to Horizon Europe—Pillar II, the EU's primary funding program for research and innovation, which boasts a budget of €95.5 billion. This program provides grants to support activities that promote: Disciplinary and Interdisciplinary Exchanges: Encouraging collaboration across various academic disciplines. Scholarly Exchanges: Facilitating the sharing of knowledge and research findings among scholars. Intersectoral Exchanges: Promoting interactions between academic researchers and practitioners from the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. International Research Collaboration: Building partnerships between Canadian researchers and their international counterparts, particularly in the EU and associated countries. These grants are not intended to fund the implementation of Horizon Europe projects but to prepare Canadian researchers for successful participation by building the necessary networks and partnerships.

Benefits of the Destination Horizon Grants program:
  • Capacity Building: Enhances the ability of Canadian researchers to engage in international collaborations.
  • Network Development: Supports the creation and strengthening of research networks and consortia with EU partners.
  • Funding Preparation: Assists researchers in preparing competitive proposals for Horizon Europe funding.
  • International Collaboration: Promotes global research partnerships, increasing the impact and reach of Canadian research.
Eligibility criteria of the Destination Horizon Grants program:
  • Eligible Applicants: Researchers affiliated with Canadian postsecondary institutions that are eligible to administer SSHRC funds.
  • Project Focus: Activities should aim to build capacity and develop networks or consortia with EU and associated country researchers, aligning with the objectives of SSHRC's Research Partnerships program.
