The program supports Ontario-based First Nations, Inuit, and Métis artists working in the visual arts, crafts or traditional/customary Indigenous art forms to create artwork or facilitate workshops.

The Indigenous Visual Artists Materials grant, provided by the Ontario Arts Council (OAC), is designed to support Indigenous artists in acquiring the materials they need to create their art. This program specifically assists visual artists who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) and are based in Ontario, enabling them to develop their artistic practices and work on new creative projects.

Eligibility criteria of the Indigenous Visual Artists' Materials program:

  • Indigenous Identity: Applicants must self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit).
  • Ineligible applicants
  • Non-Indigenous applicants, ad hoc groups and collectives, organizations
  • Practice: Must be a practicing visual artist involved in creating work in any visual art form (e.g., painting, sculpture, textile, installation, etc.).
  • Previous Recipients: Artists who have previously received funding from this program are eligible to apply again, but must have completed reporting on past grants.
