Special Events Stabilization Initiative

The Special Events Stabilization Initiative (SESI) provides financial support to major Toronto-based festivals and special events that have faced economic challenges due to disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic, helping them maintain operations and continue delivering high-impact cultural programming.
  • City of Toronto
Overview of the Special Events Stabilization Initiative program:

Administered by the City of Toronto’s Economic Development & Culture division, the Special Events Stabilization Initiative (SESI) supports large-scale, high-profile public events that play a significant role in Toronto’s cultural, economic, and tourism landscape. The initiative is designed to help stabilize events that have been financially affected by external factors, particularly those that experienced major disruptions due to the pandemic. SESI funding helps cover core operational costs, sustain organizational capacity, and ensure the return or continued success of major cultural and public-facing events. Eligible events must demonstrate economic and cultural significance to the city, attract wide public audiences (local, national, or international), and have a history of operating in Toronto. Events must also align with the City’s cultural priorities, including community inclusion, access, and diversity.

Benefits of the Special Events Stabilization Initiative program:
  • Financial stabilization for long-standing cultural and special events
  • Helps preserve Torontos creative and tourism economy
  • Supports event producers in overcoming pandemic-related financial challenges
  • Encourages the return of large-scale community and tourism-driven programming
  • Maintains employment and vendor relationships within Torontos event industry
