Overview of the The Learning Fund program:

The Learning Fund is one of several support mechanisms provided by the Nunavut Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to strengthen and grow the territory’s audiovisual industry. This program is designed to help emerging and established Nunavummiut film and media professionals acquire new skills or deepen existing expertise. The fund covers training activities such as formal courses, internships, apprenticeships, workshops, job shadowing, or other mentorship-style learning opportunities, either within Nunavut or outside the territory when necessary. It is part of NFDC’s mission to build local industry capacity and reduce barriers to entry for those interested in working in film, television, and digital storytelling. The program is accessible to individual applicants and can also support small group learning initiatives, especially those led by Inuit or Nunavut-based creators. The Learning Fund prioritizes training that leads to direct career advancement or tangible outcomes, such as employment in a production, technical upskilling, or project readiness. Applications are assessed on the learning opportunity’s relevance, the applicant’s career goals, and the potential impact on Nunavut’s creative industries. The fund is open year-round, but applicants are strongly encouraged to apply at least four weeks in advance of the proposed training or learning event. The Learning Fund complements other NFDC support streams, such as the Market Travel Fund and Development/Production Funds, and reflects a commitment to developing a sustainable, culturally rooted screen industry in Nunavut.
