The Workplace Skills Training program, offered by SkillsPEI under the Department of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population, provides financial assistance to businesses in Prince Edward Island (PEI) to enhance their workforce's skills.
  • SkillsPEI
Overview of the Workplace Skills Training program:

The program supports employers in identifying and implementing job-specific, short-term training tailored to their unique business needs. Employers can determine the type of training required, which could involve enhancing specific technical or operational skills that align with industry standards and future growth objectives. Importantly, training that forms part of the company’s routine business operations, such as onboarding or general workplace policies, does not qualify for funding under this program. SkillsPEI contributes up to 50% of the direct training costs, while employers are responsible for the remaining half. Eligible costs typically include trainer fees, training materials, and facilities used for the training. The program is especially beneficial for businesses seeking to upskill their workforce to meet evolving industry demands or to adapt to technological advancements.

Benefits of the Workplace Skills Training program:
  • Financial assistance to reduce the costs associated with training employees.
  • The ability to design and deliver training programs customized to address specific business and industry challenges.
  • Enhanced employee skills that align with evolving market and operational demands.
  • Increased productivity and competitiveness by ensuring a highly skilled workforce.
  • Support in adapting to industry changes, such as new technologies or processes, by upgrading staff expertise.

  • Be based in Prince Edward Island and hold valid registration as a business or organization.
  • Represent one of the following:
  • Private-sector businesses.
