  • City of Edmonton
Overview of the Brownfield Redevelopment Grant program:

The Brownfield Redevelopment Grant Program is an initiative by the City of Edmonton to support the cleanup, remediation, and redevelopment of brownfield sites—properties that are underused or vacant due to real or perceived environmental contamination. This program is part of Edmonton's commitment to environmental sustainability, urban revitalization, and smart land use. The goal is to reduce barriers and encourage private investment in transforming these challenged sites into productive spaces that enhance the city’s economy and livability. The grant is designed to support both the assessment and remediation stages of brownfield redevelopment. Eligible activities include environmental site assessments (Phase II and beyond), risk assessments, remediation plans, site remediation activities, and costs related to environmental professional services. This program supports up to 50% of eligible costs, with funding tiers based on the activity type. By improving access to funding and reducing the financial burden of environmental assessments and cleanup, the City aims to make brownfield projects more viable for property owners, developers, and businesses. The grant aligns with the City Plan and Edmonton’s goals for sustainable development, climate resilience, and economic diversification.
