Overview of the Standards Council of Canada program:

SCC’s work helps drive Canada’s health, well-being and economic prosperity. Whether it’s the food we eat, the products and technologies we use, or how we get to work, every aspect of our lives is touched by standards. Standards and conformity assessment not only provide confidence in the quality and safety of products and services, they also play an integral role in improving the overall health and safety of Canadians, and of their environment. At SCC, everything we do is aimed at improving Canadians’ quality of life and economic prosperity. SCC works closely with its partners to promote the value of standards and conformity assessment. We have a vast network of partners and, together, we promote the development of effective and efficient standards that protect the health, safety and well-being of Canadians while helping businesses prosper. We facilitate and drive collaboration among our stakeholders such as the standards development organizations, provincial and territorial governments, regulators, Canadian experts and others. We are supporting Canadian federal, provincial and territorial governments to remove unnecessary trade barriers to encourage the free flow of goods, services and workers within Canada. SCC is Canada’s respected voice and advisor for standards and accreditation on the world stage. As Canada’s voice on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), SCC promotes national priorities by ensuring we have an influential voice at the table shaping the international standards of tomorrow. We provide Canadians with a gateway to international standards development and conformity assessment. We coach and support Canadian businesses and innovators in the international standards development process to ensure Canada leads the way in international markets.
