This program supports Indigenous projects that involve the safeguarding of traditions and culture, including language; traditional knowledge and skills; storytelling, music, games and other pastimes; knowledge of the landscape; customs, cultural practices and beliefs; food customs; and living off the land.

Overview of the Indigenous Cultural Heritage Program program:

The Indigenous Culture Heritage Program (ICHP) is designed to support the preservation, protection, and promotion of Indigenous heritage in Newfoundland and Labrador. It aims to fund projects that focus on safeguarding Indigenous traditions, knowledge, languages, cultural spaces, and the living off the land practices.

Eligibility criteria of the Indigenous Cultural Heritage Program program:
  • Be located in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Be Indigenous individuals, groups, or organizations (including non-profit groups, communities, or councils) that focus on the promotion and preservation of Indigenous culture.
  • The project must be related to the protection, preservation, and promotion of Indigenous heritage, including language preservation, knowledge sharing, cultural practices, or traditional ways of living off the land.
