The Seed Funding program by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) provides financial assistance to help cover the costs of early-stage activities for housing projects. This funding aims to support the development of affordable, sustainable, and accessible housing across Canada. The Seed Funding program offers two main types of funding: Non-repayable Contributions: Up to $150,000 per project. Intended for pre-development activities such as feasibility studies, business plans, and environmental site assessments. Loans: Up to $350,000 per project. For more advanced project development activities like preparing drawings and specifications, legal fees, and other development costs.

  • Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants: Non-profit organizations, private sector developers, municipalities, and Indigenous groups.
  • Projects: Must be aimed at creating new affordable housing units or preserving existing affordable housing.
  • Affordability: Projects must meet CMHCs affordability criteria, ensuring that housing remains affordable for low-to-moderate-income households.
