The Métis Entrepreneurs’ Assistance Program (MEAP) provides non-repayable grants to Métis individuals in Alberta for starting or expanding businesses. The grant can cover up to 30% of project costs, with a maximum of $99,999, requiring applicants to contribute 10% equity. Eligibility criteria include being an Alberta resident, having relevant experience, and generating at least $20,000 annually from the business. Eligibility criteria of the MEAP Grant program:

  • Valid Metis Identification
  • Business must be a start-up or expansion
  • Must lead to full-time employment
  • Minimum $20,000 annual income from the business
  • Business must be the primary income source
  • Applicant must own at least 51% of the business
  • Relevant industry experience (6 months - 1 year)
  • 10% minimum cash equity contribution
  • First apply for financing through Apeetogosan
  • Grant excludes passive investments, property, certain industries
  • Business viability and sustainability required
  • Necessary licenses and certifications
  • Located in Alberta, with at least 6 months residency
  • Total project costs must exceed $20,000
  • No funding for pre-incurred costs or family transactions
