Overview of the First Nations Youth Entrepreneurship program (FNYE) program:

The First Nations Youth Entrepreneurship (FNYE) Program, administered by First Nations Agriculture & Finance Ontario (FNAFO), supports young First Nations entrepreneurs in building viable businesses that generate income and strengthen local economies. This program is open to youth located both on and off reserve across Ontario and welcomes businesses at various stages—from early startups to expansion projects. Through a combination of accessible financing, grant assistance, and mentorship, the FNYE Program empowers youth to develop self-sustaining enterprises and acquire key business skills. Participants can access a micro-loan of up to $13,800 at a fixed 6% interest rate over six years, with no payments required during the first year. Additionally, they may receive a non-repayable grant of up to $6,200, provided they contribute a minimum 5% equity investment. Eligible ventures include businesses in all sectors, including agriculture, food production, retail, trades, and services, and may operate on a part-time or full-time basis. Beyond funding, the program provides mentorship, business coaching, and specialized workshops on marketing, bookkeeping, and business planning. Networking opportunities connect participants with Indigenous business professionals and entrepreneurs. Managed by FNAFO (formerly IAPO, established in 1984), the program continues the organization’s mission to foster economic development and agricultural growth among First Nations in Ontario.
