Overview of the Veterinary Incentive Program (VIP) program:

Launched by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, the VIP aims to address veterinary shortages in underserviced areas, particularly northern Ontario. Administered by the Agricultural Adaptation Council, the program provides financial incentives to newly licensed veterinarians working in food animal or mixed animal practices. Participants must practice full-time and deliver services, including regular or emergency on-farm care, in defined underserved regions. The $5 million program runs from 2023 to 2032, fostering access to essential veterinary care for food animals such as cattle, poultry, and sheep. Eligible applicants must comply with reporting and annual attestation requirements throughout their participation.
