Methane Reduction Demonstration Program

A non-dilutive grant program supporting the demonstration and commercialization of methane detection, quantification, and reduction technologies within Alberta’s oil and gas sector.
Overview of the Methane Reduction Demonstration Program program:

The Methane Reduction Demonstration Program funds late-stage methane technologies and supports their field demonstration at operational sites owned by NGIF Accelerator Industry Grant Program members. The program accelerates commercialization by providing non-dilutive capital, industry validation, and direct customer feedback. It targets TRL 7–9 solutions (with TRL 6 considered if commercialization is clearly defined) across methane mitigation, reduction, detection, measurement, and quantification. The initiative operates through three competitive cohorts (2025–2027) using a two-stage intake process and requires all funded projects to be demonstrated in Alberta. NGIF partners with federal and provincial funders to leverage additional financing, and the program welcomes both Canadian and international applicants capable of deploying in Alberta.

Benefits of the Methane Reduction Demonstration Program program:
  • Access to non-dilutive capital
  • Industry-hosted demonstration sites
  • Feedback from major Canadian oil and gas operators
