Overview of the Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program:

The Multi and Inter-Arts Projects grant program, offered by the Ontario Arts Council (OAC), supports projects that combine multiple artistic disciplines or blend various forms of art to create innovative and collaborative works. This program is designed for organizations and individuals working at the intersections of different art forms, encouraging experimentation and pushing the boundaries of traditional arts practices. Multi- and inter-arts activities involve the balanced integration of two or more artistic disciplines in the creation, production, and presentation of a project. These artistic forms may either remain distinct or be combined into a new, unified form. This approach sets such projects apart from those that fit into OAC’s traditional, discipline-specific funding categories such as Theatre, Dance, Music, Literature, Visual Arts, or Media Arts. Projects that fall under this grant are unique in their blending of disciplines, making them eligible for funding outside of these more traditional programs. This focus on artistic crossover fosters a dynamic creative environment where new, interdisciplinary forms can emerge, helping artists explore innovative approaches to their craft.

Benefits of the Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program:
  • Funding for Interdisciplinary Projects: This grant provides financial support for artistic projects that combine two or more art forms, allowing artists to explore new collaborative and cross-disciplinary work.
  • Support for Artistic Innovation: It encourages creative exploration, artistic risk-taking, and the development of new forms of expression that may not fall neatly within a single artistic category.
  • Opportunities for Collaboration: Artists and arts organizations can benefit from increased collaboration opportunities across different sectors, fostering partnerships that can lead to future projects and funding avenues.
  • Community Engagement: Projects often engage diverse communities, promoting inclusivity and cultural representation through innovative artistic expressions.
