Overview of the NADF Microloan program:

The Microloan Program from the Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (NADF) is designed to offer flexible, low-interest loans to Indigenous individuals and communities in Northern Ontario who are looking to start or grow a small business. Recognizing that access to capital can be a major barrier for emerging entrepreneurs, especially in remote and rural areas, the program offers financing that is easier to obtain than traditional loans. NADF's Microloan supports a wide range of business needs, including equipment purchases, inventory, working capital, marketing, and minor renovations. The application process is streamlined and tailored to those who may have limited credit history or collateral. In addition to financial support, NADF provides business support services to help entrepreneurs plan, manage, and sustain their businesses effectively. The program is part of NADF’s broader mandate to promote economic growth and self-sufficiency among First Nations, Métis, and Indigenous individuals in the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) territory and surrounding regions. The microloan fund helps empower Indigenous entrepreneurs to build and strengthen local economies through small-scale business development.

Benefits of the NADF Microloan program:
  • Quick access to small-scale capital for Indigenous entrepreneurs
  • Supports business startup and expansion in rural and remote regions
  • Low-interest rates and flexible repayment options
  • Streamlined application process with minimal barriers
  • Business advisory services provided by NADF staff
  • Increases financial independence and economic participation for Indigenous communities
  • Can be used for a wide range of purposes: equipment, inventory, marketing, minor renovations, and more
