Overview of the Municipal Agricultural Grant program:

The Municipal Agricultural Grant is a community support initiative jointly managed by The County Foundation and the Municipality of Prince Edward County. Its goal is to help local farmers overcome operational or financial obstacles that could hinder the continuation of farming activities. The grant was created on the recommendation of the PEC Agricultural Advisory Group and is adjudicated confidentially by The County Foundation. Each application is reviewed anonymously (e.g., as “SMALL #1,” “SMALL #2”) based on the farm’s geography, type of operation, and justification for funding. The Foundation ensures fairness by omitting identifying details during the selection process. This grant aims to strengthen the resilience of PEC’s agricultural sector by addressing critical issues such as unexpected expenses, revenue drops, climate change mitigation projects, labour shortages, and succession planning. In doing so, it supports both short-term operational continuity and long-term sustainability in the County’s farming community. The program emphasizes confidentiality, equity, and alignment with the Municipality’s broader agricultural strategy. Successful applicants are not publicly disclosed, reflecting the program’s focus on privacy and impartiality.
