SDTC Start-up and Scale-up funding programs support growing Canadian entrepreneurs by providing a non-repayable contribution to projects that are developing innovative technology with economic and environmental benefits.

Overview of the SDTC Start-up & Scale-up Funding program:

The SDTC (Sustainable Development Technology Canada) grant program aims to fund promising sustainable technology development and demonstration projects that have significant environmental benefits, such as reducing GHG emissions, minimizing water consumption, and reducing contamination. Eligible activities include advancing technology development and/or demonstration required to secure the first paying customer, with a focus on economic viability and market validation.

Benefits of the SDTC Start-up & Scale-up Funding program:
  • SDTC typically provides:
    • Funding on average 33% of eligible project costs.
    • An average contribution of $2 million to $4 million, with funds disbursed over the life of the project up to a five-year period.
Eligibility criteria of the SDTC Start-up & Scale-up Funding program:
  • The following qualification must be met in order to be eligible in the program
  • Part 1: Company Eligibility
  • The applicant must be Canadian Controlled Corporation. This means, the majority ownership must be Canadian.
  • The applicant must be developing an innovative solution with Intellectual Property (IP) potential.
  • The applicant must be a Small or Medium Sized Enterprise (SME), which means you have less than 500 employees.
  • Part 2: Project Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicant companies must identify a commercialization partner that can validate the product or service in a market setting. (Ex: A facility or site provider that is willing to host a commercial demonstration).
