Overview of the Starter Company Plus Program - Ottawa program:

Participants begin the program by gaining an introduction to business fundamentals while working on the development of a business plan. The curriculum covers key topics such as identifying target markets, digital marketing strategies, branding, tax planning for sole proprietors, networking, and pitching skills. As part of the Building Your Business phase, participants are paired with mentors who have expertise and experience relevant to their business needs. These mentors provide guidance as participants apply their foundational learning to launch and grow their ventures. Throughout the program, participants are required to complete a functional business plan, create a realistic cash flow forecast, establish defined business milestones, and prepare a pitch deck.

Benefits of the Starter Company Plus Program - Ottawa program:
  • After working to develop the key components of their business, participants will have the opportunity to put their training to the test and pitch their business to a panel of committee members for a chance to be awarded a grant of up to $5,000.
  • Not all program participants will receive a grant. However, all participants benefit from the training and mentorship provided, and the valuable guidance and experience gained through the program.
Eligibility criteria of the Starter Company Plus Program - Ottawa program:
  • Applicants are encouraged to apply to the program if they meet the following criteria: they must be at least 18 years of age and currently operating their business in Ottawa, Ontario. Eligible individuals must also be Ontario residents and either Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants cannot be enrolled in full-time studies or planning to return to school. The business must be an early-stage product- or service-based venture. In addition, applicants cannot be participating in any other provincially or government-funded employment, self-employment, or entrepreneurship training programs, whether or not those programs provide financial assistance.
