Emerging Opportunities Program

The Emerging Opportunities Program (EOP) provides cost-shared grants to agri-processing companies in Alberta to support investments in new technologies, scale-up, and growth of emerging agricultural sectors with high economic potential.
  • Canadian Agricultural Partnership
Overview of the Emerging Opportunities Program program:

The Emerging Opportunities Program, part of Alberta’s Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), supports strategic investments that advance Alberta’s agri-processing sector by encouraging innovation, value-added processing, and commercialization of emerging agricultural products. The program is focused on helping Alberta businesses invest in new technologies and processing capabilities that enhance competitiveness, drive economic growth, and create jobs. It prioritizes projects that improve processing capacity, enable export development, and stimulate investment in underdeveloped or high-potential agricultural areas. The EOP targets initiatives aligned with sector strategies such as increasing value-added processing, expanding global market access, and supporting advanced manufacturing practices. Projects must demonstrate a high return on investment and a clear link to Alberta’s strategic priorities. Eligible expenses include capital purchases, equipment installation, facility improvements, and feasibility assessments. Only cost-shared projects are eligible, meaning applicants must contribute matching funds based on a defined ratio. Applicants are required to submit a full application package that includes a detailed project proposal, budget, business case, and timeline. Projects will be evaluated based on strategic impact, innovation, market potential, and economic benefit to Alberta. The program is competitive, and funding is limited. Intake is continuous until the program is fully subscribed. This program is particularly well-suited for Alberta-based companies in agri-processing, including food and bio-industrial sectors, seeking to scale production or develop new product lines. It complements other Sustainable CAP programs designed to modernize Alberta’s agriculture and food economy.
