The Funding Indigenous Resurgence in Edmonton (FIRE) grant provides funding assistance—up to $10,000—to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals and organizations to support heritage-based projects that tell important stories about our community.

Overview of the Funding Indigenous Resurgence in Edmonton (FIRE) program:

The Heritage Community Investment Program (HCIP), under the Edmonton Heritage Council, offers the Funding Indigenous Resurgence in Edmonton (FIRE) Grant. This program is designed to support Indigenous-led initiatives that promote cultural resurgence and strengthen Indigenous communities in Edmonton. The FIRE Grant provides financial assistance to projects that aim to revive, preserve, and promote Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions.

Eligibility criteria of the Funding Indigenous Resurgence in Edmonton (FIRE) program:
  • Eligibility for the FIRE Grant
  • Indigenous Identity:
  • Must be a First Nations, Metis, and/or Inuit person over the age of 18.
  • Grant Limitations:
  • Applicants cannot have an ongoing FIRE-funded project and are limited to one FIRE grant per calendar year.
  • Project Focus:
  • The project must explore or promote Indigenous heritage.
  • Project Structure:
  • Must have clear start and end dates, and a specific scope of activities. For non-profits or collectives, the project must be distinct from ongoing operations or programs.
  • Eligible Applicants:
  • Open to individuals, registered non-profit societies, or Indigenous-led collectives.
  • Geographic Requirement:
  • Applicants must reside or have their project located in Edmonton, Treaty 6, or Metis homelands. Indigenous peoples living on First Nations reserves and Metis settlements in Treaty 6 are encouraged to apply.
  • Eligible Expenses:
  • All costs related to planning, execution, and promotion of the project are eligible, excluding expenses incurred before notification of funding.
