Funding to early-stage projects that are building a product to demonstrate its intended functionalities and design by experimenting, testing, and validating different concepts and hypothesizing to arrive at a first functional prototype.

This program has an open-funding application that allows you to describe your product's financial needs.

  • Gain capital to prove your product and test your hypothesis, this will help you make the necessary changes to improve your prototype idea.
Eligibility criteria of the Prototyping Program program:
  • To be eligible as an eligible applicant you must:
    • Meet the specific Eligible Applicant criteria noted in Program Guidelines (Download PDF)
    • Be Canadian-controlled as determined in sections 26 to 28 of the Investment Canada Act
    • Have your head office in Canada
    • Be in good standing with all applicable talent and industry associations and guilds
    • Have affirmed and attested that the Project submitted for funding complies with the CMFs Narrative Positioning Policy
    • Have registered for a PERSONA-ID https://cmf-fmc.ca/persona-id/ account(s) and have provided this account number as part of their Application.
    • Must own and control all rights necessary to produce and exploit the Eligible Project
  • IMPORTANT: *Entities that provide services but do not own applicable rights are not eligible to apply to the CMF.*
  • For your project to be eligible, it must:
    • Rights of ownership, significantly and meaningfully developed, by Canadians
    • It is conceptualized in Canada, with at least 75% of its Eligible Costs being Canadian costs
    • It is under Canadian ownership and Canadian executive, creative, and financial control
