Overview of the Renovation Grant for Commercial Buildings and Spaces program:

The Commerce-Montréal initiative provides funding for Montréal-based businesses looking to renovate their spaces. With the exception of government or industrial buildings, it targets owners and tenants of commercial real estate. Up to $50,000 in work expenses and up to $10,000 in professional service fees are covered by the award, respectively. For each project, a minimum investment of $40,000 is needed.

Benefits of the Renovation Grant for Commercial Buildings and Spaces program:
  • At a minimum, applicants must invest at least $40,000 (before taxes) per project in order to encourage projects that will have a substantive impact on a district.
  • Up to $50,000 per project, 40% of the qualified work costs are covered by the subsidy. Furthermore, up to $10,000 per project, 75% of the expenses incurred for professional services linked to the job are reimbursed.
Eligibility criteria of the Renovation Grant for Commercial Buildings and Spaces program:
  • To qualify for this program, the following criteria must be met:
    • Buildings not owned by the government, the City of Montreal, a school board or a religious institution
    • Independent businesses or commercial buildings that are not part of a network with more than 5 branches, subsidiaries or franchises
