The Self-Employment Program is offered by a number of Community Futures regions in Saskatchewan. Be sure to contact the office in your region for more information. The Self-Employment Program provides supports to assist eligible individuals to develop, implement and operate viable businesses. The program helps individuals obtain the necessary skills and knowledge to operate their own businesses.

Benefits of the Self-Employment Program Saskatchewan program:
  • To provide potential entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge necessary to start and successfully operate a small business
  • Is designed to assist unemployed or underemployed individuals to create and maintain self-sustaining jobs through the self-employment option (Underemployed means current job is casual or part-time, working less than 20 hours per week, and unable to find full-time work that makes use of it education or it work experience)

  • Creative thinking
  • Business Plan development
  • How to run a profitable business
  • How to prepare your financial records
  • Business communication
  • Customer service
  • Legal issues in starting and operating a business
  • Financing options such as securing business loans and grants
Eligibility criteria of the Self-Employment Program Saskatchewan program:
  • Individuals who meet the general eligibility requirements must undergo a thorough pre-screening to determine their suitability for Self-Employment. This pre-screening is followed by a more detailed assessment by a Community Futures office specializing in business development.
  • A resident of Saskatchewan
  • Able to attend and participate full-time in the development and implementation of the business
  • Personals with a potentially viable and self-sustaining business idea that meets the criteria for eligible businesses
  • Currently unemployed or underemployed (Underemployed meaning current job is casual or part-time, working less than 20 hours per week, and unable to find full-time work that makes use of education or work experience)
